Credit requirements
Eligibility
- Registered business (Pty) Ltd, CC, partnership or sole proprietor with a registration number.
- Minimum 12 months trading history.
- Active PlantPal Hire Credit Application Access subscription at R499.95/month.
- Authorised signatory or director completing the application.
- No unresolved judgments, business rescue or liquidation proceedings.
Documents we need
- Company registration documents (CIPC / equivalent registrar).
- VAT registration certificate where the business is VAT registered.
- Director or owner ID / passport copy.
- Three most recent months of business bank statements.
- Latest management accounts or annual financial statements.
- Proof of physical business address (not older than 3 months).
- Two contactable trade references with existing supplier accounts.
Limits and terms
- Opening limits typically range from R50,000 to R500,000 based on affordability.
- Standard terms: payment due 30 days from invoice date.
- Transport, operator and damage recoveries are billed on the same account.
- Limits are reviewed every 6 months and may be increased or reduced.
- Until an account is approved, all bookings are payable in full upfront.
Assessment process
- Submit the online application with documents once subscribed.
- Application moves to Under review, usually within two business days.
- Credit and trade reference checks are performed, possibly with a third-party credit provider.
- Outcome is Approved, Declined or More information required.
- Approved accounts see credit terms at checkout on eligible bookings.
Credit terms and conditions
1. Nature of the subscription
The R499.95 per month Credit Application Access subscription buys access to the PlantPal Hire credit application and account management tools only. It is not a credit product, does not constitute credit, and does not guarantee that a credit facility will be granted. Subscription fees are non-refundable once the billing period has started and the subscription may be cancelled at any time, effective at the end of the current period.
2. PlantPal Hire is not a lender
PlantPal Hire operates a marketplace connecting hirers with independent plant hire suppliers. Where credit terms are granted, they are granted by PlantPal Hire or by an appointed third-party credit provider or financing partner, subject to that party's own assessment, agreements and applicable law, including the National Credit Act where it applies.
3. Application and information accuracy
The applicant warrants that all information and documents submitted are true, complete and current, and that the person applying is duly authorised to bind the business. Materially false information entitles us to decline the application, suspend or close an approved account with immediate effect, and recover any outstanding amounts.
4. Credit and reference checks
By applying, you consent to credit bureau enquiries, bank code checks and contact with the trade references you provide, and to the sharing of your application data with our credit assessment partners for this purpose. Enquiries may be recorded by credit bureaus.
5. Payment terms
Approved accounts are invoiced on completion of each hire and payment falls due 30 days from the invoice date unless a different term is stated in writing on your account. VAT is charged at the applicable rate in your country. Payments must be made in the invoice currency without set-off or deduction.
6. Late payment
Overdue amounts attract interest at 2% per month, compounded monthly, from the due date to date of payment. Accounts more than 15 days overdue may be suspended, existing hires may be recalled, and reasonable collection and legal costs on an attorney-and-own-client scale are recoverable from the account holder.
7. Security and sureties
We may require a deposit, personal or cross-company suretyship, or other security as a condition of approval, and may vary that requirement on review of the account.
8. Credit limits and reviews
Credit limits are allocated at our discretion and may be reduced, suspended or withdrawn at any time on written notice, including where payment behaviour, exposure or the outcome of a review warrants it. Bookings that would exceed the available limit must be paid upfront.
9. Hire obligations remain
Credit terms change when you pay, not what you owe. All hire agreements, damage, loss, fuel, standing time, transport and operator terms agreed with the supplier remain fully binding, and disputes about a hire do not suspend the obligation to pay an undisputed invoice.
10. Data and privacy
Application documents are stored privately and are accessible only to you and the PlantPal Hire credit team and its assessment partners. Records are retained for the period required by applicable financial and tax legislation.
11. Changes to these terms
We may amend these credit terms on reasonable notice published on this page. Continued use of an approved credit account after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the amended terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the parties consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa, without limiting our right to enforce in the account holder's home jurisdiction.
